Episode 163
The Inu-tachi is enjoying a rare moment of relax, having lunch.
But Sango feels quite uneasy, as Kirara hasn't returned yet.
Miroku supposes that she could be hanging around, remembering that they're near to the old taijiya village.
Next, we see Kirara flying in the sky, in her biggest form.
Then she lands in a forest, and turns into her usual nekomata form.
The scene shifts again, and we see Kohaku entering in an abandoned mansion, where he finds some incense sticks and takes them.
Kagura calls him back, telling him he sure won't find Kikyou there; she then tells him not to stray too far, and then flies away.
In the meanwhile, Kirara is walking; then she sits, looking at the sky, and she feels like she's with Kohaku and Sango again, like those times when they were kids.
We see the two little siblings laid on the grass, with Kirara, and looking at the birds in the sky.
Then they look at each other in the eyes, and laugh sweetly.
The flashback ends, and Kirara starts wandering again.
Kohaku is jumping on trees.
When he sees the taijiya village, he smiles, happy.
Then he goes and prays, on his knees, at the villagers' graves, burning the incense.
He has a flashback of when he killed his comrades and injured his sister.
Then, he stands up and goes away.
Meanwhile, Kirara goes near a river, where she remembers little Kohaku and Sango playing there.
Many villagers are looking at them, amused, while Sango makes a fish go near Kohaku, so that he can catch it.
But when he tries to, he falls in the river.
Everybody laughs, and Kirara, with a simple blow of her biggest form's paw, catches the fish.
Seeing this, Kohaku and Sango look at each other and laugh too.
The flashback ends, and we see Kohaku before a cave.
He stops there and remembers of when he and his sister found shelter from the rain there; little Kohaku sneezes, shaking, and his loving sister dries his hair with a towel.
He turns red and tells her not to do that, and she is relentless, but then he lets her continue and looks away.
Kirara looks at some trees' barks, where she can see clawing proofs, and remembers again.
She remembers Kohaku being attacked and injured by a wild bear, and being saved by Sango's hiraikotsu.
With the help of Kirara, Sango manages to put the bear to flight.
Kohaku sighs, relieved, and Sango, checking if he's all right, sees a wound on his knee.
So she takes an ointment she had hidden in her armor, and uses it to cure his knee.
It hurts, but then he stands up and thanks her.
He then asks her to wait for him and runs away quickly; Sango is confused.
When Kohaku is back, Sango is cuddling Kirara.
He shows her a beautiful bouquet of lilies; she's amazed, and thanks him, while he feels a little embarrassed.
Kirara meows, and the flashback is over again, leaving Kirara alone.
But this is just a short moment, as she hears something coming near.
She looks around her and transforms.
She's surrounded by a lot of youkais.
She growls, and then we see Inuyasha getting his tongue burned with a too hot drink.
Sango is still anxious, waiting for Kirara.
Her friends try to calm her, but she decides to go look for her.
Kirara is being attacked by the youkais, and she gets injured.
But Kohaku comes, rescues her and helps her slay the youkais.
Sango is running in the forest, and she sees Kagura on a tree; Kagura notices her too.
Kirara and Kohaku are eating some fish near the river.
Kohaku asks her how his sister is, and expresses the desire to be with her.
Kagura asks Sango about Kikyou's whereabouts, but, as Kagura is there, Sango is only concerned about Kohaku.
A little reluctantly, Kagura points towards some direction.
Sango starts to run, but stops when Kagura asks her what she's going to do when she finds him, but Sango tells her that's none of her business and goes away.
Kohaku swears to avenge his comrades by killing Naraku.
He doesn't know if he's going to make it all alive, but he doesn't know if he really wants to live after what he's done.
In another flashback, late in the afternoon, the taijiyas are back at the village, and so is Sango.
Kohaku goes to welcome them.
In the evening, the people of the village celebrate with dances around a fire and food.
Sango claps her hands to keep time, and both she and Kohaku laugh.
Kirara tries to avoid being stepped on by the dancing people.
In the present, Kirara goes to Kohaku, that pets her with a sad face, telling her he's sorry.
He notices the injury on her forehead, and takes out of his clothes the same ointment Sango used long ago, and heals Kirara’s wound.
Sango sees the burnt sticks of incense before the graves.
Some tears slip out her eyes, as she turns back and says Kohaku's name.
While Kohaku and Kirara are walking together, he tells her to follow him, as he'll show her a secret place no one else knows about. She obeys.
Sango finds the dead corpses of the youkais that Kohaku and Kirara killed.
By examining them, she understands that they aren't dead from very long, so Kohaku must be near.
She starts to run again, but then she stops, remembering Kagura's words.
Flashbacks about Kohaku attacking Kagome under Naraku's control, about him slaying the whole village and about him trying to kill a woman, with tears in his eyes, after having killed many more women, flash before her eyes.
But, no matter what happens, Kohaku is still her brother, the only one she's got.
So she starts her search again.
Making his way through the tall grass, Kohaku finally arrives at the secret garden he wanted to show Kirara.
He wishes Sango was there, and some tears are in his eyes.
Wind, unrelenting, blows, taking some flower petals away.
Sango is still desperate in her run, calling Kohaku's name in her mind.
Kohaku's got a flower bouquet now, and says goodbye to Kirara.
Tears shine in his eyes, but he chases them away and turns away.
While he's walking around, nearby, Sango screams Kohaku's name with a devastated, sorrowful voice.
He hears her and is paralyzed, panting.
So he immediately hides behind a big tree.
But he takes a look behind the tree and sees his sister running in his direction.
He reaches out an arm, trembling, towards her, and says 'Ane-ue'.
But then he hides again, crying in pain and clawing himself to the bark in order to prevent himself from going to her.
So, in a powerfully emotional scene, she passes near the tree Kohaku's hidden behind, but she can't see him, so she continues her run.
Kohaku collapses, shattered, pronouncing her name.
Kirara appears before Sango, and leads her to the flower garden.
It's filled with beautiful lilies, the same ones Kohaku had given his sister.
She is amazed, and Kirara licks her cheek.
Then Sango notices the ointment on her forehead, understanding this was Kohaku's doing.
She remembers the time when he gave her the bouquet, and how happy she was, in the sunset's light, coming back home with the flowers in the arms.
She remembers herself running and her happy laughs, and Kohaku trying to reach her, crying her to wait for him.
Scenes of her, Kirara and Kohaku together run before her eyes, and then she sees the image of Kohaku; he has his back on her, but then he turns to her and smiles.
She realizes Kirara was with Kohaku the whole time.
One tear runs down her face, on a lily, as she collapses, crying, to the ground, saying Kohaku's name.
Kirara draws close to her to comforts her.
When she's back to her friends, she's managed to chase away every tear and every trace of her cry.
Her friends smile, but Inuyasha rises up, angry at her.
Miroku holds him down. We can't hear what they say, just a melancholic melody.
Sango, who was looking at the ground, lifts her eyes to the clouds in the sky.
While Kagura and Hakoudoushi are discussing, Kohaku is coming back to them.
He turns back, with a fierce glimmer in his eyes.
Determined, he turns again and runs.
We can see there are lilies on the villagers' graves.
There's and a happy scene of Kohaku, Kirara and Sango together in the flower garden, but it fades away at once, as reality is far more cruel.
The framing shifts to the sky, where two butterflies are flying.
Then, it shifts to black.
